ASTRO’s MJ Confirms Military Enlistment

Now is the time to send your warm send-off wishes to MJ, AROHAs! The talented idol just recently announced the date of his upcoming military enlistment.

MJ of popular South Korean boy group ASTRO recently confirmed that he will begin his mandatory military service next month.

On April 9, Fantagio revealed the sudden news regarding one of their prized artist’s upcoming endeavors via an official statement. “MJ will receive basic military training at the training center on May 9 and then perform his military duty in the military band.”

In consideration of the idol’s personal welfare and in order to reduce the disorder around the enlistment site and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, no special events and send-off traditions will take place on the day of MJ’s enlistment. In addition, the place and time will also be kept private.

“He will be enlisted without a separate procedure, so we ask for your generous understanding,” the agency explained.

Concluding their statement, the agency assured fans that MJ will faithfully fulfill his military duty safely. They also asked fans for their continued support until the day the idol returns in good health.

Prior to this, MJ has personally delivered the news to AROHAs in their sixth anniversary fan meeting held at the SK Olympic Handball Stadium.

The idol stated, “I will be enlisting in the military on May 9. I’m so sorry that I have to deliver this kind of news today, when we’re finally meeting in person for the first time in a long while. But because of that, today is so precious for me, and I think it will be the day that I remember most.”

With this unexpected announcement, MJ will be the first member of ASTRO to carry out his military obligations.

Born in 1994, MJ debuted as the main vocalist of ASTRO. The group’s first EP Spring Up gained massive traction from K-Pop fans around the world. It specifically dominated Billboard World Albums Chart in the United States and South Korea’s Gaon Music Chart.

Apart from dominating the music scene as part of ASTRO, MJ has also made a name for himself by participating in musicals and web dramas. He played the role of Danie in the musical Jack the Ripper and also took part in the mystery romance thriller web drama called Find Me If You Can.

ASTRO recently debuted its second sub-unit called Jinjin & Rocky back in January with the extended play Restore. Moonbin & Sanha also released their second EP Refugespearheaded by the title track “Who.”
